We are in the thick of the winter months meaning Ice Dams are a common issue on home exteriors. An Ice Dam is formed from melting and then freezing snow. Ice and icicles are formed and block the edges of your roof and gutters. The Ice Dam then prevents necessary draining of water off your roof, causing water to penetrate the roof and siding of your home.
A fast fix for an ice dam is to use a deicer. However, this doesn’t always completely get rid of all ice dams. Seek professional help if deicing does not work. Chipping the ice away is not highly recommended. Part of your roof or gutters could be damaged from the chipping.
After an ice dam is removed, check for any buildup in your gutters, such as piles of leaves or other debris. Finally, check for any damage to your home gutters, roof, and siding.
